YWCA – Black History Month Event
On this bright and sunny February morn Sweet Vette’s Desserts just delivered hot mouth watering sweet potato pies to the YWCA for a Black History Month Event in downtown Minneapolis.
I received an email thanks to a referral through fb two weeks ago for a catering gig. Needed was about a dozen sweet potato pies to be catered on February 22, 2012. Sweet Vette’s Desserts had been referenced as the place to go for down home mouth watering desserts. The email came from a VP. She and I played telephone tag the entire time from start to finish. We worked out all the details needed never having even one direct telephone conversation. In one of her emails she had been referred to Sweet Vette’s Desserts and her source told her my pies are delicious. After drafting up a proposal for her order and emailing it back, she replied “let’s make it happen.” Word of mouth networking is so powerful and speaks volume to people believing in one’s craft and products, in addition to showing love to a small business.
On February 22, 2012, I arrived at the desired location. This would be the first time I would speak to the VP that I had been playing telephone tag and emailing back and forth for the past two weeks. When I finally met her and had an in person conversation, it was a warm greeting. She thanked me and assured me she’d keep in touch. We had a great conversation and offered to promote Sweet Vette’s Desserts. She said that sweet potato pies are a big part of our culture and fitting for their Black History Month Event. She shared “it’s where we come from” and African Americans are accustomed to sweet potato pies over pumpkin pies.” She went on to say only twice in her life has she eaten pumpkin pie. My experiences were identical to hers.
It’s a pleasure having a craft and passion to master and deliver exactly what a customer wants. It’s a blessing when someone has referred you to someone else.
Thank you for your support.
