Sister Spokesman Event – October 2011

0

The ladies of Sister Spokesman were at one of our beloved locations in Minneapolis on October 1, 2011.

The theme: Grandparents Raising Grandkids. This is a topic many in our community can certainly relate to as more and more grandparents are raising their grandkids. There are almost 5 million children living with their grandparents full time and many will tell you that raising grandchildren is totally different from when they were raising their own children.

The Red Hatters committed to lending their support to Sister Spokesman for October. The location was Sabathani Senior Center in the heart of the south side.  Those Red Hatters packed the 2nd floor banquet hall.  The space was very accommodating for such a huge turnout. Red hats were everywhere and our seniors were dolled up for this outing. It was nice seeing our seniors come out in big support of Sister Spokesman’s monthly event.  The weather was gorgeous and the turnout was great.

Sweet Vette’s Desserts had a wide variety of desserts and products to wet your pallet. A number of the seniors shared with me they were ready to eat when they walked in. Sweet Vette’s Desserts had those down home southern style desserts to serve to the crowd. There were peach cobblers, sweet potato pies,
Louisiana banana puddings, cupcakes with homemade chocolate frosting topped with walnuts, hot out-of-the oven banana nut breads and pound cake.  Just for the occasion, she expanded the menu to include one of her most popular salads. It’s called turkey salad and grapes with rotini. She served up ready to go containers of the salad and complimented it with buttered croissants.  Also on sale were fresh fruit cups consisting of in-season honey dew melon, cantaloupe, grapes and red ripe strawberries.

Customers made many, many trips back and forth to Sweet Vette’s table for the combination of goods. A number of customers came back at least 3 times purchasing those Sweet Vette’s Desserts.  It was a total sell out.

One young lady name Marcia came back so many times enjoying all Sweet Vette’s desserts and foods. Each time she stopped to make a purchase, there was a line. She patiently waited as I served up each customer. Once it was Marcia’s turn, she asked if I would consider vending just one week later at
the very same location. She said and I quote “all your desserts are excellent and I’m wondering if you would consider vending at a function here just one week from today? It’s our monthly senior outing.”

I replied with thank you and yes I’d be delighted to. She also shared that as the event planner for the
event coming up in a week, that she had only extended an invitation to (2) other vendors and said my desserts would certainly compliment those vendors. Marcia provided me her contact information and it was a wrap. A big thank you to Marcia for a great business opportunity.

Thanks for your support.
