About Yvette Young

about-yvette-520x338Growing up in Louisiana and spending summers in New Orleans provided a unique experience to some of the best cooking around.

I come from a long line of great cooks.  Specifically, my desire to cook great desserts stemmed from my aunt Tee Tee Elsie. She would make the best food and her desserts were to die for.

As an amateur cook I’d hoped that one day I would gain the experience to match my passion for making wonderful and original desserts; the kind where people often say to me, “My grandmother used to make Louisiana Banana Pudding this good!”

Through the years my Louisiana Banana Pudding has been the #1 requested dessert for all of our family gatherings. Later, friends started asking for my desserts and co-workers request them for work-place events and so on.

In the many years of cooking I’ve had training in a wide variety of cuisine, from down-home soul food, Creole, Mexican, Ethiopian, Cajun and others. Cooking came easy for me because as a girl, I spent many hours in the kitchen observing and learning the trade from my mother, sisters and aunts. I remember asking questions and attentively observing them.

As a preteen, I would spend my summers in New Orleans experimenting with all sorts of recipes.  The kitchen was my canvas while my sister and brother-in-law were working and going to college.  I remember making a two-layer vanilla cake with homemade chocolate frosting.  I was so proud of my homemade chocolate frosting that I forgot to frost the cake before I had placed one cake on top of the other.  When they got home, they reminded me of my mishap.  This was indeed my early days of cooking.

Nowadays, I rarely use recipes because cooking comes so natural to me and I enjoy chopping the seasonings and other ingredients.  Cooking is truly my passion and I often cook with all natural ingredients.

Launching my new website, SweetVettesDesserts.com, is a wonderful opportunity for me to share my passion for cooking with a wider audience.  I had been making Louisiana banana pudding, sweet potato pie and other delicious desserts and foods for nearly 40 years when I decided to launch my business; Sweet Vette’s Desserts.

I have to admit the business side can be a bit of a challenge; however, the cooking aspect is my truest passion. Beginning in the spring of 2009, my focus expanded to more than just cooking up delicious desserts. I began to dibble and dabble into other foods such as salads and appetizers in addition to full course meals that I would sell one day.

It’s such a pleasure for me to deliver exactly what my customers want and it’s even more satisfying when they express how much they’ve enjoyed my desserts and foods.

With this website my hopes are to introduce and share my passion to my audience and sell these home made products.  I would also like to hear from you about your cooking experiences.

Thank you and enjoy my website.
